nancy springer 250A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2014 CHAPTER PRESIDENT

Dear CBOAC Members and Stakeholders:

I want to thank the membership for your confidence to elect me as your 2014 California Building Officials Association of California (CBOAC) President. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your 51st President. I promise to work hard and remain focused on our association within this coming year as I take these responsibilities you have bestowed upon me very seriously.

I truly enjoyed our 50th Anniversary ABM. I always look forward to this meeting and having the opportunity to network, train and meet new code officials. I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all of you for your support and participation. Congratulations to Todd Sobolik of Humboldt County, who received our 2013 Building Official of the Year, and Rick Reid of Simpson Strong Tie, recipient of our 2013 Industry Member of the Year. I cannot think of two more worthy individuals to receive these prestigious awards.

I would like to thank Past President, DeWayne Starnes for his service and leadership this past year. We appreciate ALL that he has done for CBOAC over the past years. He has truly set the path for the rest of us to follow. Additionally, I would like to thank those Board members who have departed this year: Doug Oliver, Jeff Janes, Craig Tole, and Dee Renfro for their contributions to our chapter. As we look to the year ahead, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Board members Tony Creter, Michael Harrison, Rick Renfro, Andrea Coley and Rick Reid.

My initial introduction to CBOAC was as a private industry member reaching out trying to network within the different chapters in California. I am pleased to say that CBOAC has provided me that and more. I found a dedicated group of Building Officials and industry members that invited and accepted me into their unique fellowship. Not only are they dedicated to their jobs but they make education a high priority. Whether it be on codes, new building materials and practices or issues we all face daily as Code Officials. They have always provided informative, entertaining and pertinent classes at their Annual Business meetings with many resources to help educate the membership.

We are always facing new challenges within our profession, whether its budget cuts, adoption of new codes or legislative issues; we cannot succeed without the help of each other. There have been many notable leaders in this group that have served before me, and I hope to follow in their footsteps to build upon this organization.

I believe it will be important for our association to continue networking and maintain current professional relationships (CSAC, CALBO, CCPDA, ICC, etc.) that have been established and look to establish new ones. I task you to look to your colleagues and/or neighboring Building Officials by telling them about CBOAC and invite them to become members. We need you and them. It is your participation, suggestions, partnerships and friendships that truly make us a success.

This year it is my anticipation that CBOAC members will continue to improve upon the professionalism of the Building Official by continuing their support in attending legislative days, code workshops, committee involvement, responding to the different group list serves, and attending Annual Business Meetings, etc. with other groups and associations.
